Shelf wear on the inside of a book. The white area of paper sits opposite a deeply colored image. Dye from the illustration has rubbed off onto the white area, causing these marks. Notice the clean line where these marks stop, along the right edge of the top image. Areas that are orange align with orange parts of the illustration, green with green areas, and so on.
