The two round greyish areas surrounded by a darker red halo are from food spilled on this book’s cover (arrows). The solid parts of the food remained on the surface, while liquid parts of the food seeped into the paper. The spill dried before mold began to grow, so we were able to scrape this material off gently with a sharp knife. |
